Why We Crave Horror Movies

Fist of all Stephen King is one sick person. I cannot believe that some one would actually believe something that sick. I do not agree that we all have some sort of insanity in us or that some people solve these cravings through watching nasty movies that portray mutilation of other people. To me that is completely disgusting and very disturbing. King believes we are all a little mentally insane and although I agree that we all have some sort of evil in us I can not agree that it is mental insanity. If I agreed with this view point, does that mean I would agree that I share the same issues as a serial killer or rapist? Does that mean I have just controlled my insanity better? Does thats mean the insanity of a mass murder lies within all of us? And if those desires are not solved with horrific images does that mean I will turn out the same way? I have trouble believing all of this especially as a Christian.
I firmly believe Stephen King is mentally insane and possessed. Everything he promotes and produces is demonic and evil. I believe there are people who dot share these same disturbing qualities, but by no means is it accurate to say we all are insane.
I do agree that most people crave some sort of scary, thrilling experiences. Some meet that desire through a scary movie, others are satisfied with a scary ride or daring experience that has the chance to turn out badly. Whatever that feeling and desire is, I don’t believe it makes us all mentally insane.

Any Comments?? Anyone else really disturbed by this essay?

Hmm...
I'm not totally convinced that Stephen King is way off base on this one. I do in fact believe that everyone's got a little bit of crazy in them somehow. I believe that it is true that we all know people who talk to themselves and have other mild forms of insanity. Like those ridiculous people who play those stupid war video games where they blow people up and whatnot. I suppose these could be classified as the same people who were involved in the Columbine shooting not to many years ago. I think, however, that this is assuming a whole lot about maybe just a few people. Why is it so thrilling to shoot someone on a video game? Why in the world do people like to go to scary movies just for the sake of being scared? This one's beyond me, but I do think we have to be careful about what we let our minds think about.

Is this really very surprising coming from Stephen King? I think not. Maybe this essay makes him feel better about his own craziness. Yeah, we'll go with that.

Here's the issue: Man was created in God's image, and with that image comes the desire to create. The problem of the Fall, however comes to distort everything God intended. We can use God-givin abilities to do ungodly things. Think of sex for instance? God ordained it, but we can pervert it. The same thing with creativity. I think coming up with killing babies and things like that is satanic, ungodly thinking. Now, I have been drawn to horror movies, because I have a creative mind and I love suspense, and things that cause me to scream like a girl, but I think there needs to be a limit. Some things (movies) are just plain evil, period. These are just some of my thoughts.

Okay...I also believe there is a little insanity in all of us, but I have few desires to do horrible things to others. Notice I said few. We all have to admit our anger has made us WANT to do evil things, but that does not mean we will.

Liz hit the point that this probably made King feel better about his own outlandishly sick self. He does thrill many people out of their skin.

Personally, I prefer comedy and action, but do watch some sick scary movies on my 25" tv at home. For me, the theater is too expensive to have large scary things coming at me, plus I scream very loud!

Yes, Elijah we all do ungodly things. I do not know the faith of King, but his mind is a mass of strange, exiotic thinking. I do enjoy some of his work, though I do not plan to act out on my insanity to harm others.

Stephen King hit the nail on the head by saying that we all have a little crazy in us. Some have a lot of crazy in them, and are just really good at hiding it.

I believe that we crave horror movies for the same reasons we crave any movie. One to entertain us and two to distract us from the reality that is our lives. Horror movies just have the added bonus of giving us the adrinaline rush. We love the high that goes along with watching a horror movie.

Is it a bad thing that our culture is dependent upon movies to excape? Yes, I do, but I too am guilty of loving thriller, and horror movies.
